The growth of blueberry has extremely stringent requirements on the soil, suitable for good permeability and drainage, and the acidic soil with the content of organic matter, so the soil needs to be improved before blueberry planting. If the acid and soil improvement is not complete and the method is not proper, it will cause the loss of green and yellowing of plant leaves, few and weak new shoots, poor plant growth, and even large area dead trees. So how to adjust the acidity of blueberry soil? Let's get to know it with the editor.

1. Control weeds

Controlling perennial weeds is a key factor in the long-term successful production of blueberries. in order to develop perennial weeds, soil preparation is needed one year before blueberry planting. The control of perennial weeds requires the removal of all plants, including roots, mulch crops, crop rotation and farming fallow. Many perennial weeds have very large roots and should be forcibly removed at the end of the growing season. In leisure, annual weeds are allowed to germinate and cultivated in time to reduce the number of weed seeds and the root activity of perennial weeds.

2. Lower the pH value of soil.

Soil pH value will affect the existing form and availability of nutrient elements in the soil. Blueberry likes ammonium nitrogen. If the pH value is too high, then ammonium nitrogen will be transformed into nitrate nitrogen under the action of microorganisms, which is not conducive to blueberry absorption and cause plant nitrogen deficiency. It leads to growth hindrance, green loss of leaves, bad results and so on. The method of applying sulfur is widely used to reduce the pH value of soil at home and abroad. Sulfur is oxidized to sulfuric anhydride by sulfur bacteria, and then converted into sulfuric acid, which plays a role in reducing soil PH. The application of sulfur should be carried out one year or at least 4 months before planting, and its application into the soil must be decomposed for 1-3 months before the pH value can be adjusted, and the effect can be maintained for about 3 years.

3. Increase the soil pH value.

When the soil pH value is lower than 4, it is also not conducive to blueberry growth, so lime is generally used to improve the soil pH value. Lime needs to be used one year before blueberry planting, and the specific application amount should be determined according to the soil pH value and soil quality. For example, when the pH value is 3.3, 500kg lime per mu can increase the pH value to more than 4, while when the soil pH value is 4, only 60kg lime per mu can be used, which can also significantly increase the blueberry yield.

4. Increase the content of soil organic matter.

When planting blueberries, the content of soil organic matter should be kept at 2% Mel 4% or changed, so that the change of soil pH value is relatively small, the root system is well developed, and there will be fewer diseases and insect pests. Planting or mulching crops 1-2 years before planting can effectively increase soil organic matter. In addition, peat, mature sawdust and compost are good sources of soil organic matter, which can be mixed into the soil before planting. In addition, animal manure can also increase soil organic matter, but it needs to be used after fermentation to avoid burning roots or aggravating diseases and insect pests.
