It takes only a few days for humans to climb the mountain, but it takes decades for cherry blossoms to go down the mountain. Cherry appreciation in winter has become a national sport. In recent years, even flat cities can see beautiful cherry blossoms. However, cherry blossoms are originally found only in temperate zones and mountainous areas. Why can they be seen everywhere now?. It used to be heard that low-altitude cherry trees died of maladaptation, but now they are in full bloom everywhere.

It turns out that the fact that Chinese people are able to enjoy cherry trees nearby is due to the birth of the plains variety cherry blossoms, behind which many researchers have accumulated their painstaking efforts: the forest test has collected Taiwan's native cherry blossoms for experiments, relieved seed dormancy and increased the germination rate; the Forest Department of Ilan University has found a method of stable quality and mass reproduction. Agricultural testing institutes and peach farms are based on previous studies, using mountain cherry blossoms with strong environmental adaptability for breeding. only now do we have healthy flat cherry blossoms to enjoy.

At present, there are six varieties of cherry blossoms that can grow on flat land in China, and the breeding of each variety takes at least ten years. Chien Ching-teh, a retired researcher at the Forest Research Institute, says that it takes a long time to study trees, and it takes a decade or decades to bear fruit. "compared with cherry blossoms introduced from abroad, native cherry blossoms are more suitable for the local environment."

Long queues of cherry fans can be seen in famous cherry-watching attractions such as Lala Mountain, Wuling Farm and Alishan during the holiday after winter. In recent years, the popularity of cherry appreciation has also spread to the plains, and cherry blossoms can also be seen on the outskirts of the city, such as Donghu Lewo Park, Kanggao Keng Creek Trail, and Luozhuang Avenue in Ilan.

Most of the cherry blossoms in popular scenic spots in mountainous areas are introduced from abroad, especially in Japan, such as Yoshino Sakura, Hejin Sakura, and Sakura Sakura. These cherry blossoms from the temperate zone can only grow at middle and high elevations in Taiwan, where they are located in the subtropics.

Compared with foreign varieties of cherry blossoms, domestic native species of cherry blossoms are more adaptable to the local climate, but they still need to overcome many hurdles in order to become a forest in plain land.

According to the brief Records of Taiwan Vascular plants, there are 10 species (including 1 variety) of the genus Prunus in Taiwan, including mountain cherry blossoms, Fushe Sakura, Alishan Sakura, Alpine Little White Sakura, Orchid Island Wild Sakura, Black Star Sakura, Taiwan thick Plum, Round Fruit Sakura and Loess Tree. 10 kinds of native cherry blossoms are of different shapes and colors, while mountain cherry blossoms, Fushe Sakura and Alishan Sakura are the most commonly seen in scenic spots.
