"in the direction of Taiping Mountain and Wuling Farm from Ilan, most tourists are used to going directly up the mountain along the seventh line of Taiwan, but in fact, across the vast Lanyang River, there is a mysterious tribe called ── Leshui, which is composed of Dongba, Maxi, and Zhinao. "

The Yi 51 line connected in series is parallel to the Taiwan Seven Line. As early as the era of logging in Taiping Mountain during the Japanese occupation, this road used to be the path of the forest railway. In the heyday of logging, in addition to the Atayal, the settlement also mixed with many mainlanders, Hakkas, Minnan and other ethnic groups engaged in forest mining, so that as many as 4000 people of the Leshui tribe were stationed. Even the national government set up Datong Township Office in the Ma'ao tribe after the retrocession. You can see the level of excitement.

Until Typhoon Seloma ravaged Ilan in 1977, the originally trickling Lanyang stream soared overnight, and the ruthless flood took many lives. Then, with the end of logging and the suspension of the railway, before the official opening of the Yi 51 line in 1998, the Leshui tribe experienced 20 years of silence with no external transportation.

Through the wild years, Givas, who is now in his thirties with rich agricultural products, still remembers it vividly: "in the past, there was a simple bamboo bridge on the bed of Lanyang Creek, and my brother had to walk across the stream to take a ride to school every day. When I was a child, I also encountered a broken bridge. My mother crossed the river with me when I was young. It is said that I fell into the stream and was almost washed away." After a wild time, Chiva Si-fu returned to work in her hometown after graduation. Xiaoyun was the same age as her. Apart from planting millet, they also devoted themselves to tribal affairs and promoted the journey of food farmers for a long time, so that the outside world could get to know this once-forgotten tribe through contact with the land.

The Leshui tribe, which is located in the mountains, is full of winding mountain roads, only this place has vast alluvial plains while leaning against the mountains, so it has been the barn of Datong since the Japanese occupation. People use the unique topographical environment here to set up production and marketing classes, grow organically certified sun-dried rice, as well as non-toxic vegetables and native crops such as millet and red quinoa. In February and March every year, during the season when Koryo is rich, people can come here to pick vegetables and experience the production process of kimchi; in April and May, they can go into the bamboo forest to harvest osmanthus bamboo; in June and July, they can also harvest full millet kebabs in a field of yellow millet, and there are also fresh red meat plums to taste this season.

From the land to the dining table, return to the ancient method to know Xiaomi, even in the non-productive season of autumn and winter, the itinerary of the Leshui tribe is still wonderful. In addition to the normal trips such as making bamboo cups, making bamboo tube rice, and experiencing the sowing of corn shoots, the journey of going back to the ancient method of dealing with millet is unique. Givas mentioned: "in the early days, millet will be harvested into the barn, coinciding with festivals or guests visiting. They will take out the amount they want to eat, rub and pestle with their feet, peel off the shell with a pestle, and finally remove the shell bran and empty shells according to the wind."

Millet grains treated by traditional methods are soaked, steamed, pestled, and then wrapped in powdered peanut sugar to become an afternoon snack. The hot and cooked sesame rice tastes soft and fragrant. In addition, the tribe also plans the production experience of "millet blessing hanging ornaments," using the young leaves of mountain palm used by the early people as plant fibers, combined with bamboo hooks as millet strands, so that tourists can bring home decorations. In February and March every year, you can actually sow seeds and observe the growth process of millet.

Eye-catching new tribal cuisine in addition to the experience of being close to the land, Givas will also take tourists to know the characteristic architecture of the tribe, visit the Leshui station and century-old tunnel built during the Japanese occupation, and taste the good craftsmanship of tribal mothers at noon. If there is plenty of time For dinner, you can book Xiaoyun light food dishes designed by tribal materials, ── small farmers' rice balls made with Leshui's organic sun-dried rice, red quinoa, mountain pork and purple sweet potato stickers. Free-range soil eggs combined with scallions, egg rolls wrapped with bacon and solanum nigrum, rabbit grass, wild amaranth and other seasonal wild vegetables, as well as home-grown pumpkin salad with fresh lemon flavor and innovative drinks made with tribal red meat plums. Let the tribe cuisine in addition to big fish and meat, there are refreshing healthy food choices!

The Atayal Life experience Camp, which was promoted 10 years ago, is now gradually transforming into organic agriculture, successfully launching the brand of "human happy water and drying rice". In recent years, the Aboriginal Office of Ilan County has even tutored this group of young people, turning the tribal dining table into the protagonist, using young people's Atayal creative cuisine combined with organic agricultural experience, so that tourists can forget their hearts in the happy waters of the world.
