The Shennong Award is awarded once every two years, which can be called the Academy Award in Taiwan's agricultural circles. Taiwan began to apply for the Shennong Award in 1983, and 10 outstanding farmers are selected every year, which need to be selected at the township (town, city, district), county (city) and national levels. The top 10 are selected as Shennong winners by committee members, and those who have not won the top ten Shennong are awarded as model farmers.

The 22 award-winning farmers, in order to change the way of cultivation and farming, and sustainable management of agriculture and fisheries, obtain logo verification and processed products as the basis of industrial upgrading, some farmers introduced enterprise management model and science and technology to develop intelligent agriculture. The award-winning farmers are not private, and are eager to help other farmers improve their technology and solve problems.

This award ceremony was attended by a head of state for the first time, and President Tsai ing-wen named and thanked the farmers present one by one, and encouraged people to buy Taiwan's high-quality agricultural products during the Spring Festival. Tsai ing-wen said that technological research and development in Taiwan's agriculture will lead to industrial upgrading, and Shennong and model farmers present are the best models, and technological innovation and the inheritance of experience will benefit more farmers.

Premier Su Tseng-chang also paid tribute to the award-winning farmers present, and said that farmers produce firewood, rice, oil and salt for the Chinese people, and taking care of them is tantamount to taking care of their own lives, and the Chinese people should thank the farmers.
